Capability Building on Innovation Management
Anchored on Innovation Management as a strategic capability for enterprise competitiveness, and aligned with the Innovation Management Policy Framework for MSMEs and the internationally recognized standards ISO 56000 (Innovation Management—Fundamentals and Vocabulary) and ISO 56002 (Innovation Management System—Guidance), the Capability Building on Developing SME Innovation Champions program is implemented by Entrepinoy Volunteers Foundation Inc. (EVFI) in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) – Region IVB or MIMAROPA. The program aims to strengthen the innovation management capacities of SETUP-assisted small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the MIMAROPA region by translating innovation concepts into structured, practical, and actionable enterprise strategies.
The program responds directly to the findings of the 2023 DOST-led assessment of SETUP-assisted SMEs, which revealed that most enterprises operate at a basic, yet incomplete, level of innovation management maturity. To address this gap, the initiative introduces SMEs and ecosystem stakeholders to systematic innovation management practices, enabling them to better manage innovation processes, align innovation with business strategy, and improve long-term competitiveness and sustainability.
Implemented by EVFI through its roster of experts and innovation management consultants, the program builds on the earlier Capability Building on Developing Innovation Champions within DOST, ensuring coherence between DOST Innovation Advisers and SME beneficiaries. EVFI provides technical guidance, facilitation, and mentoring throughout the innovation readiness assessment, interactive learning sessions, and hands-on workshops focused on innovation strategy development and innovation management planning.
With the continued support of the Department of Science and Technology, the program aims to enhance SME competitiveness, promote long-term business sustainability, and foster a culture of innovation within local enterprise ecosystems—positioning innovation as a practical and strategic tool for inclusive regional development.
