Innovation for Filipinos Working Distantly from the Philippines (iFWD-PH)

This 2020 a public health emergency worldwide was declared due to the COVID-19 pandemic which resulted in repatriation of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) after losing their jobs abroad. According to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) an estimate of 500,000 OFWs lost their job in August of 2020.

In keeping with these thrusts, a partnership was forged between Entrepinoy Volunteers Foundation Inc. (EVFI) and the Department of Science and Technology – National Capital Region (DOST-NCR) to implement the project to provide core business management sessions with repatriated Overseas Filipino Workers to assist them in establishing technology-based enterprises under the Innovations for Filipinos Working Distantly from the Philippines (iFWD-PH) of DOST -NCR.

The DOST has partnered with EVFI to ensure that the OFWs will have the right skills in managing their own technology-based enterprise. The DOST have identified 150 OFWs comprising repatriated OFWs or family members representing OFWs working abroad who will proceed to the training-workshop conducted by EVFI.

EVFI with their Volunteer Executives developed an assessment tool to evaluate the skills and knowledge of the OFWs through analyzing accomplished questionnaires and observing participation in classroom-type discussion online. EVFI also developed a syllabus with core-business development module that is customized for OFWs that will instill values, ethics and discipline to become entrepreneurs. EVFI ensures the application and utilization of business principles through homework and participants’ presentations.
