RAYMOND A. ABREA: The Philippine Tax Whiz
Mon Abrea, a millennial at his prime, is ranked among the Outstanding Young Persons
of the World, as well as the 2015 The Outstanding Young Men of the Philippines (TOYM).
A Distinguished Bedan in the field of Accounting and Taxation, he is also an alumnus
of the the 2016 Fall Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) Professional
Fellowship Program, and a recipient of the Rappler Move Award 2016 for the Digital
A former BIR examiner, Mon is now considered the most prominent advocate of genuine tax
reform in the country. Popularly known as the “Philippine Tax Whiz,” he helps educate
politicians, celebrities, fellow entrepreneurs and even lawyers in tax matters. He is currently
the adviser of the Commissioner of Internal Revenue on tax administration reforms.
In pursuit of his passion, he founded and currently presides over the Center for Strategic
Reforms of the Philippines (CSR Philippines), an organization that seeks to empower the fast-
growing MSMEs and serves as the official Think Tank of BIR and DTI to simplify tax
compliance for small businesses.
He is also the President and Chief Strategy Officer of Abrea Consulting Group (ACG), the
premier social enterprise for strategic tax advisory and Tax Hub for SMEs in the Asia Pacific.
All the while, he serves as a professor at the Ateneo Graduate School of Business on Tax
Management (TaxMan) course for the MBA-Regis Program.
